Why was the moon bright yellow and big?

The moon's light doesn't change, but pollutants in our atmosphere can alter how it looks. And, how big it looks is an optical illusion... it's always about the same size, but if it's lower in the sky, you tend to judge it by objects on or near the horizon. When it's high in the sky, without the references, your mind judge's it's appearance to be a little smaller.
