Can i get facebook on my phone when service is shut off?

my friend allee has tmobile & her service is shutoff but she still gets facebook notifications on her phone like messages & pokes. well i have virgin mobile lg rumor touch & i was wondering if the same thing will happen to me because my service will be shut off for a few days
