Straightening hair with heat protectant spray? SIZZLING???? Please help!!?

A few days I got a straightner with ceramic plates. I also bought a heat protectant spray so that my hair doesn't get burnt. I sprayed some in my hair, and started straightning it. It started making sizzling sounds!!! Is this bad for my hair??? Is it bad for the straightener?
